Power and Functionality

The Victron Quattro is a combined inverter and charger, similar to the MultiPlus. Its many features include a true sine wave inverter, adaptive charging, and the unique PowerAssist technology. It’s an ideal solution for a narrowboat, offering a highly reliable and efficient power system.

Two Independent AC Inputs

A key feature for narrowboats is the ability to accept two separate AC inputs. For example, the Quattro can be connected to both a shore-side power source and an on-board generator. It automatically switches to the active source, providing a seamless and uninterrupted power supply.

AC Outputs and PowerAssist

The main output has no-break functionality, ensuring continuous power to all connected devices, even during a source changeover. A second output is also available for loads like air-conditioning or water heaters that should only run when an AC source is active, conserving battery life.

Preventing Generator Overload

The Quattro’s PowerAssist feature is extremely beneficial for narrowboats with limited power sources. It prevents a generator or shore connection from overloading by first reducing the charging current. If more power is needed, it boosts the supply with energy drawn from the batteries, ensuring stable operation.

The 8000VA Model and Narrowboats

The 8000VA model is particularly well-suited for the narrowboat market. Its high power output can handle the surge demands of a large on-board electrical system, from kitchen appliances to workshop tools. This makes it ideal for live-aboard boats with high-power requirements, ensuring reliable operation.

Remote Monitoring

When paired with a GX device like the Cerbo GX, the system can be monitored and controlled remotely. This allows a narrowboat owner to manage their power system from anywhere in the world, receiving alerts and making adjustments via the free VRM app and portal.
