Using Victron VRM to Start an Eperspächer Remotely

Heading to the marina on a chilly evening? There is nothing worse than arriving at a freezing cold boat.

In this video, I’m at home in my office preparing for a trip to Törkmar, but before I even get in the van, I’m using the Victron VRM (Remote Management) portal to get the heating started.

The Victron VRM is a completely free tool that is getting better all the time. While it’s perfect for monitoring Victron equipment, it also allows us to track plenty of other onboard systems.

I’ll take you through a quick tour of our setup, including: Real-time Monitoring: Checking battery levels (currently at 100% thanks to some steady sun!), solar input, and even moonlight power generation.

Tank Levels: Keeping an eye on fresh water, fuel, and black water levels from afar. Remote Switching:

How I use the relay switches on our Shine Quattro to remotely trigger the Eberspächer diesel heater.

Solar Dump: A quick look at how we manage excess energy in the summer to heat our water.

I also show you our custom-designed Victron screen—we’ve made it look a bit more “boaty” to suit the aesthetic of Törkmar.

Stick around until the end of the video where I arrive at the marina in Oundle to find a beautifully warm cabin (23.3°C!) and hear the Eberspächer already hard at work. It’s a game-changer for winter boating!
