Why Apply Tackcon Primer to uPVC Strips?
Priming uPVC is essential for a long-lasting bond. The surface is naturally smooth and non-porous. This makes it difficult for adhesives to grip. Using a primer ensures everything sticks properly. It stops the strips from coming loose and extends their lifespan.
Why use a primer?
- Better Grip: It creates a chemical bridge between the uPVC and the adhesive.
- Ensures bonding: It stops the strips from lifting at the edges.
- Weather Resistance: It helps the bond survive heat and moisture.
- Added Durability: It ensures the installation stays secure for years.
Preparation
Lightly sand the surface with fine-grit sandpaper. This process is called ‘keying’. It creates a rough texture. This allows the primer to grip the material more effectively.
Application
Clean the area thoroughly before starting. Apply one even coat of primer. Use a high-quality brush for edges. Use a mini roller for any flat areas.
Do not put too much primer on your brush. This prevents drips and runs. Always stir the primer well before use. This keeps the thickness and colour consistent.
Drying
The primer dries to the touch very quickly. However, do not apply the topcoat or adhesive yet. You must wait for the full curing time. Check the manufacturer’s instructions for the exact schedule. This ensures the best possible finish for your Törkmar project.
